Extra-Wide, Margate Dunes Put Squeeze on Sunbathers

You thought the view-killing Margate dunes were bad? Wait till you get a load of these new, super-wide, dunes being constructed by the DEP and Army Corps of Engineers. Let’s take a look at the ADAMS AVE beaches, as well the area in front of Lucy the Elephant.

Some of these extra wide Margate dunes, effectively kill HALF THE BEACH.

Margate drainage system and beach OUTFALL pipes.

The DEP & Army Corps, are now trying to fix the problem they created last summer. Flooding caused by the dune system they built. Affectionately known as the DUNEBOGGLE. A complete and utter failure.

A network of outfall pipes plan will drain the street runoff directly into the surf. Oil, fertilizer and other contaminants found on the streets will soon be whisked directly into swimming areas. NOT on the beach where much of the run-off water would filter and percolate safely into the sand.

Classic Army Corp of Engineers: A giant project to fixing damage caused by their previous giant project. With an open check-book and zero accountability, the ACOE looks to find as much work as possible, for as long as possible.

Building groins in Margate, or a super jetty system in Longport, would be more effective way to protect property. Higher bulkheads on the back bay will reduce regular flooding.

Local, state and federal politicians ignore the obvious. They select plan that pays out $$ to friends and families.
