Margate, Brigantine & Atlantic City Teachers Highest Paid in State

Jersey shore teachers don’t like having their salaries publicized. That being said, most local taxpayers, many with no voting rights, still want to see this vital info.

The Press of Atlantic City published teacher salary averages and related info. Here’s a quick recap:

Local government union workers such as teachers and public safety employees get negotiated raises and automatic step increases whether they’re doing a good job or not.

Margate teachers get $91,045 for 10 months of work, and since that’s the median, half of them get more than that. That’s the fourth-highest teacher pay rate in the state.

Behind them in the state’s 10 highest are

  • Brigantine $89,900
  • Ocean City $89,036
  • Atlantic City $88,318

In some school districts, teachers also get longevity increases on top of their salaries.

When a nearly bankrupt municipality, like Atlantic City is forced to cut staff, the union forbids administrators from laying off bad or under-performing teachers and requires keeping those with the most longevity and highest pay.
