Margate PD and Atlantic City K-9 Unit Nab Burglar

On Sunday, August 19th, at approximately 6:38pm, the Margate City Police Department received a 911 call from a resident of Gladstone Avenue reporting a burglary in progress to her home. The resident was able to describe the suspect to a police dispatcher and stated the suspect ran out of the home and fled on foot.

When Officers arrived in the area to begin a search, a second 911 call was received reporting a male matching the description of the suspect from the first incident had entered an open garage of a home on Fulton Avenue and attempted to steal a bicycle. The suspect was confronted by the homeowner who then relinquished the bike and again fled on foot.

Minutes later, A bicycle Officer on Colmar Circle was flagged down by a third resident who reported the same suspect was on the front porch of their home attempting to break in. The resident told the Officer she then saw the suspect trying to break into her vehicle parked outside. When the resident activated the panic alarm to her car, the suspect again fled on foot.

Margate Police Officers then set up a perimeter where they believed the suspect may be hiding. The Atlantic City Police Department was contacted for assistance and a K-9 Officer was requested to respond to conduct a search for the suspect. Officer Pali and his K-9 partner “Roxy” along with Sergeant Adams of the ACPD responded to assist. The male suspect was located shortly after hiding in some bushes nearby and he was taken into custody without resistance.

Brahin Shariff Jones, 30, of Atlantic City was arrested and charged with multiple counts of burglary and theft. During a search of the area the following morning, Officers were able to locate a backpack Jones was carrying. Inside the bag Officers discovered proceeds from the initial burglary along with CDS, specifically heroine, and burglary tools.

Jones has been lodged in the Atlantic County Justice Facility and further charges are pending.

  1. When suspects are caught or sketches/videos are known, is it possible to include with the article? That way, members and the general public can see what the person looks like, in case they ever return!!
