Margate vs Army Corp of Engineers in Court, While Atlantic City Beaches Getting Ripped Up

As Margate presented testimony in Federal court on Wed AUG 9, trying to hold back harmful dune building along their shores, Atlantic City beaches were invaded by bulldozers and dredge pipes.

Looks like Margate dune workers & diesel equipment has moved to Atlantic City for now. We noted 3 separate work areas in AC this week. Atlantic City is really getting whacked extra hard by the Army Corp. WATCH VIDEO. Note: AC already has huge dunes and super-wide, beautiful beaches.

According to Vince and Joan Castronuovo of Margate, who both attended the Federal hearing in Camden, the most exceptional, anti-dune testimony was saved for last.

Margate presented an expert witness / environmental engineer: Gary Brown. He has top credentials and is blessed with more knowledge and facts than most could comprehend. Brown offered indisputable data that befuddled the NJDEP and Army Corps of Engineers.

Army Corp admitted they are stumped, but wants judge to OK re-starting error-prone Margate beach project.

Environmental engineer Gary Brown described the ill-planned, poorly managed Margate dunes project as ‘worst environmental health hazard he has witnessed since 1973.’

Brown told the court: DO NOT DARE go near the water or even touch the damp sludge in Christie’s Cesspool. This is not just standing storm water, but rather a “waste water lagoon,” not to be entered without protective gear, and a really good health plan.

Judge Renee Bumb’s final words as court was adjourned at 6:40pm were that she would “rule as expediently as possible”.

Remember, the Army Corp & Weeks Marine gets paid based on cubic yards of sand pumped…..NOT on the ultimate effectiveness of this so-called flood protection project.

But, the only way the money flows, is when they dredge & dump sand on our beaches.

Dune work, disruptions & some beach closures in Atlantic City now in 3 areas. The Bartram Ave region, Tropicana / Atlantic Club and Garden Pier. These affected areas are always changing. Beach access points are poorly marked and confusing.

Use caution in bathing areas as dredging can cause heightened levels of bacteria in the surf. Dredge pipes are cutting beach in half, forcing beach goers to squeeze into small sections surrounded by changing tides.
