Margate Meeting Audio. Master Jetty, Back Bay Dredging and Front Beach Drainage

Listen to the recent Margate commissioners meeting. Topics include the pros and cons of installing a master jetty at the tip of Longport.

Margate has been fighting un-needed dunes for 17 years. Now that the Army Corps of Engineers have the OK from a variety of judges, the next battle will be over drainage. Forced outfall pipes could industrialize our beaches. Sump pumps are a mandated, but temporary solution to get rid of any water ponding that reaches 4 inches.

Ventnor has drainage problems, but they’re hidden under the boardwalk.

Listen to clips from AUG 17, 2017 Margate Commisioners Meeting.

  • Lawsuits suggest jettys just rob the sand. Some towns benefit, other suffer.
  • Did Brigantine’s etty  negatively affect AC, Ventor & Margate?
  • Sand likely to clog the inlet next summer, as new sand migrates.
  • Jettys just trap sand. Robbing Peter to pay Paul
  • Would a jetty in Longport hurt Ocean City?

The Army Corps admits that a master jetty would be most effective, but very expensive.

Legislative efforts by Senator Jim Whelan helping to make back bay dredging a reality, sometime sooner than later. Marina & dock owners might get relief soon. Shellfish habitat rule no longer impediment.

Beach Tag Sales

As of July 31, beach badge sales total $313,665, that’s  down $13,000 from last year. Anger being needlessly directed at beach inspectors.
