Vandals Taking Toll on C-Sure Playground on Ventnor Boardwalk

The C Sure Playground adjacent to the Ventnor Boardwalk started out as a beautiful, well-kept park for kids to play. It was a community effort lead by local Marsha Galespie & the many volunteers that pitched in time and money.

Over the years, C-Sure Playground in Ventnor has been neglected and abused. Even the basketball courts next door have taken a nose dive.

Broken equipment, vandalized plaques named after local contributors, graffiti and trash.  Worn out padding and rides badly in need of fresh paint. Local, as well as non-resident teens have been accused of vandalizing this once beautiful community asset.

Maybe a dedicated group of citizens will band together to fix up & refresh this once perfect playground by the sea?

The vandalizing of CSURE CHILDREN’S PARK in Ventnor makes  Marsha Galespie cry:

I ‘ve cried many many times. Seeing the destruction of 2 sliding boards, the musical instruments, graffiti.

A sign that tells the story of why and how this project was put together, acknowledging ALL the people who made it possible was ripped off. It had 6 bolts on it.

If you were a part of building CSURE or you appreciate it’s existence for your children and grandchildren, please help. We must insist on better security for this community treasure.

We shouldn’t allow this disrespect to continue.

It was a dream from this creative Ventnor resident, her vision for the community built in 2007. Privately funded and paid for by donations, it’s totally ADA accessible to ALL children. A magnificent park built totally by volunteers, who labored for 14 days and nights.

Wow! This is a disgrace. Ventnor police should put up security cameras, the park should be fixed up, and anyone subsequently caught on video vandalizing this property should be tried as an adult. I took my kids to this park when it first opened, and it was an amazing asset in Ventnor. I don’t understand why so much money has been poured into the Ventnor Pier over the years when so many more residents make use of CSURE park.

Having grown up downbeach, I am sad to see so many changes on the island that I think are not good, for example: smoking on the beach (it astounds me that some people think it’s okay to smoke cigarettes and cigars on the beach. Don’t they realize that no one wants to smell their disgusting smoke?), barbecuing on the beach (I don’t want to smell your grill smoke and stinky meat cooking when I’ve come to the beach to smell fresh salt air), dogs on the beach in the middle of the afternoon (last summer I saw dozens of dogs on the beach. I watched a dog poop in the shallow end just feet from where children were playing. The next day I saw the same dog on the same beach, and it was sitting with the same people and wearing a vest that said “police” on it! I guess it’s okay if a police dog poops where children play?!?). I could go on! Not to mention that many of my neighbors allow their dogs to Poop and pee all over my lawn, which costs me approximately $2000 in landscaping expense per summer to maintain (of course, many of these same neighbors don’t have any green in front of their houses – they have rocks instead – so no dogs are pooping and peeing on their properties. By the middle of the summer, my lawn is a field of brown spots).

When I was growing up downbeach, I don’t remember people being so inconsiderate of one another.

  2. If a group of folks gather to help, count me in. I also agree, once it is restored, we need security cameras. Vandalism is a crime!
