As a way to revitalize the Ventnor business districts, a special liquor license referendum will be placed on the ballot this election day, November 8.

If enough positive votes, you may soon enjoy a non-BYOB cocktail when you eat out in Ventnor.

The Board of Commissioners, on Aug. 18, approved the referendum pertaining to the sale of alcoholic beverages in Ventor restaurants.

If OK’ed by Ventnor voters, the city could issue up to three liquor licenses at existing or new restaurants.

REFERENDUM QUESTION:

“Shall the retail sale of all kinds of alcoholic beverages, for consumption on the licensed premises by the glass or other open receptacle pursuant to Chapter One of the Title Intoxicating Liquors of the Revised Statutes (s. 33:1-1 et seq.) be permitted in the City of Ventnor?”

Licenses would be restricted to full service restaurants only. If voters say yes, the city then decides which districts would be eligible based on the minimum square footage, the layout of establishment, and other criteria to be announced. Bidders could be current restaurant owners, or the city could hold an auction that would encourage non-local restaurants to re-locate here, in Ventnor.
