Amherst Ave Bulkhead in Margate At Risk of Failure

Earlier this week, Margate was forced to close off 25 parking spaces along busy Amherst Ave. The spots will be barricaded throughout the summer to protect against a ‘failing bulkhead.’ Some restaurants and marinas could be affected.

Residents were quick to point out the hypocrisy in this situation. To date, over $80 million has been spent for non-critical dune, drainage and outfall construction on the front beaches.

Margate Bulkhead Upgrade Needed

Virtually nothing has been spent to deal with harmful Margate back-bay surge, that weakened the bulkheads over time. The back bay regularly threatens…and sometimes pummels, homeowners during rough weather.

The Margate city engineer calls the area a potential hazard. A permanent fix is needed. It’s beyond repair. The pavement could cave in.

  1. Bulkhead has already started caving in on left side of Lamberti’s. There is literally no support remaining.
