Margate To Install Parking Meters Along Amherst Ave.

Starting May 27, 2022, paid parking could be coming to Amherst Ave between Adams and Coolidge Ave, on the bayside.

The fee for parking will be $I.00 per hour with a 12 hour limit per day.

The parking meter zone is on the bay side of Amherst Ave, along the new promenade.

Free parking is still available, if you can find it, on the ocean side of Amherst Ave.

Fees are collected via a smartphone app from a company called ParkMobile.

ParkMobile is a contactless parking payment system which can be accessed by downloading their app to your phone, scan from your phone or phone in your license plate and method of payment.

Paid parking to be enforced 24 hours a day starting Memorial Day Weekend through September 30, with a fine of $35.00 per violation.

Margate Commisioner John Amodeo supports the idea of parking meters in the city.

Want your voice heard? A public hearing on this parking meter ordinance will be Thursday, May 5 at 4p, at Historic City Hall, 1 S. Washington Ave. in Margate.

    1. So you would prefer to feed 48 quarters into a meter to pay for 12 hours instead of securely paying with a few clicks? Stop whining.

  1. This is going to aggravate an already bad situation for those of us that live on the bay block between Adams and Coolidge Avenues. I live across from condos that have parking in front so no one can park on that side of the street. I will never be able to have company the entire summer.

        1. If you/they don’t want to pay for the designated meter parking, have them park elsewhere and walk a little. If you want your own guaranteed free parking, buy a property with a a driveway.

          1. I do have a driveway that fits our two cars. But you better believe I will park in front of my house and leave the driveway for guests

          2. Great ! Just pay for meter if there is one, or otherwise park where there isn’t one and walk.

    1. Wow. That sounds like a crazy situation for the homeowners there. Do you have parking other than in front of your homes? All over Margate there is limited street parking, but I can’t imagine meters. I don’t think meters will lighten the parking load.
I’m not sure what this will of won’t accomplish.

  2. Wait till the fisherman and water park people clog up the side streets you stupid residents better raise hell you will never park in front of your houses

    1. You mean for all of the parking taken up by fisherman at night, and the water park that closes at sundown? And yet you have the gall to call others stupid…

  3. That will take a whole lot of cars paying $1.00 per hour to pay for the VERY expensive Promenade the tax payers paid for with their tax dollars.

Why not a have business privilege tax as may many communities have for their businesses??????

  4. Put out your lawn chairs to save your parking space in front of your house. Just like south Philly after a snow storm😅

  5. Is there anything constructive that residents especially that live on Amherst Ave can do other than this banter? It seems like with an address on Amherst or close to that area should have some type of permit. When you live directly on Amherst, is just not as simple as go park somewhere else and walk. Living right at the proposed district is already challenged with the season approaching especially once the water park comes, Memories goes in full swing, and restaurants packed out. I think its important for as many people to show up to meeting this Thursday to voice actually concerns.

    1. Metered parking on the bay side, and residential parking badges-passes for the opposite side and surrounding side streets seems a reasonable compromise. And agree, get out and have your voices heard.

  6. Seems that the meter parking simply translates to a revenue stream for the City of Margate which is a good thing when it comes to budgeted improvements etc. Actually, I hope that revenue generated can be applied to benches along the boardwalk but I suspect benches are being quietly and selectively reserved for a ribbon cutting ceremony to the largest donors and prominence.

Meters will not change the strain we already experience nor-do I think the meters will re-direct parking to side streets. There is no capacity to satisfy the demand for parking and meters won’t change that . I think it’s good if the revenue offsets injection of additional expense to homeowners. Just an opinion.

Can’t wait to read additional opinions as I think this seems reasonable. Let’s not forget about the “Benches”!

  7. I’m sure ParkMobile will get their share of the revenues. Its gonna be a cluster. Double whammy… handicapped spaces and you have to pay?

  8. Wait until Lamberti’s opens< LOL, LOL. What a fiasco this City has created for the residents in this area of the Bay. Knew that was in store when they built that promenade .

    1. What happens if you don’t have smart cell phone you can’t park? Now we hire more people to enforce the parking regulations. Just keep increasing the payroll for margate city.

      1. That’s a fair concern but I’m pretty sure it accepts CC’s as well I know when I’m in Ventnor that option is offered

        What about the a”Benches”
