Matisyahu is an American reggae, hip-hop, and alternative artist known for his unique fusion of Jewish themes and reggae music.
Matisyahu was raised in a Reconstructionist Jewish home and initially rebelled against his upbringing, exploring other cultures and lifestyles.
After a period of self-exploration and experimentation, Matisyahu reconnected with his Jewish roots and embraced a more observant lifestyle, including wearing a yarmulke and beard, before ultimately evolving his religious expression.
Matisyahu is widely recognized for hit songs “King Without a Crown” and “One Day,” and for his high-energy live performances.
What’s the story behind the song ‘One Day’?
The song expresses a hope for an end to violence, and a prayer for a new era of peace and understanding.
It appeared on the Modern Rock Chart at number 21 and at number 38 on the US Rock Chart; also in March 2010 it debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 at number 90 and reached number 85.
