Atlantic City Cannabis Market Oversaturated?

Up to 50 Atlantic City locations in the near future. Combined with lax / no enforcement of illegal weed sales, AC’s expanding Green Zone could be risky for those looking to get involved.

Currently, there are 12 cannabis shops operating in Atlantic City. Another 24 have already been green-lighted to proceed in the process, as per CRDA’s Lance Landgraf.

Who wrote the AC Cannabis laws?

The CRDA (Casino Reinvestment Development Authority) cannabis green zone laws were developed in collaboration between the Atlantic City government and the CRDA itself.

Specifically, the planning and zoning decisions for the green zone were influenced by the Atlantic City Mayor’s office, CRDA’s Director of Planning and Development, Lance Landgraf, and the broader CRDA board.

The exact legislative process involved city ordinances, which were proposed and supported by the city council and then backed by the CRDA for implementation within the Tourism District.

  1. CRDA aka: Can’t Really Do Anything.. doesn’t care. City Hall just grabs fees.

No way that many business’ can make money.

Louie (from Bocca / Legal Distribution ) hoping his delivery service keeps his cannabis store afloat.

  2. These companies must be bleeding money. You have to be cash-only. You can’t deduct operating expenses on taxes.

Market is saturated and there are 10x as many “grey-market” stores popping up – every gas station and corner market now sells “THCa” because the GOP accidently legalized “hemp”-derived products that are actually IDENTICAL to what the legal shops sell.

The Hemp loophole is nationwide, you can just order online now too.

So those like Lou who go through the state process, pay heavy fees, abide by the accounting rules, are inevitably going to go out of business.
