Margate resident, John Sewell reminds all about the benefits of a master jetty at southern tip of Absecon Island / Longport.

LISTEN TO AUDIO:

• Mr Stuart Farrell of Stockton Coastal Research Center: Master jetty is necessary. South end of Longport.
• Preserve & expand beach.  It also, importantly, prevents silting up of inlet.
• Brigantine Jetty was tremendous success. Allowed Brig development to explode.
• 5,000 ft. South end dev of Brigantine flourished.
• Brigantine Beached grew….cuz of large rock jetty at south end.
• Absecon Island has nothing to trap sand.
• Beach, dune and outfall project is just squander of cash by Army Corp of Engineers.

Downbeach dune & beach replenishment: pork barrel project supported by Congressman LoBiondo and Ventnor Commissioner Landgraf.

The Margate beach & street-end drainage project has officially kicked off. This is part of the overall dune & outfall pipe project. A pre-construction meeting convened this week. Notice to proceed was issued. The project should start within 2 weeks. Starting at Union, moving to Vendome… then work proceeds toward Ventnor.

Must stop work by April 17.
