Longport Mayor Patrick Armstrong led the dedication, ribbon cutting ceremony, and grand opening of Dorothy McGee Park on 22nd Ave in Longport on July 3.
The mayor was joined by borough officials, department heads, employees, Dorothy McGee’s family, main contractor Jim Leeds, landscaper Jamie Lloyd, park committee members, Longport residents, and Atlantic County Commissioner At-Large John Risley, Jr.

Upon her passing, McGee donated 2 beach block lots to the Borough requesting to create a passive park with a gazebo, flowers, and trees all contained by a 3-foot-tall fence.
Mayor Armstrong: I believe Dorothy’s dream is complete. Our children’s children will all enjoy this park for generations to come. This team is finished here. We are going to take this energy and continue with two more parks – Beach Terrace Park and Point Park.

Dorothy’s son, Lawrence McGee: This was the site of the original home, so to see it torn down years ago and go from a vacant lot to this beautiful park in her memory is amazing.

Atlantic County Commissioner John Risley, Jr: Mrs. McGee gave a wonderful gift to the community she loved. Dorothy wanted to do this for many years. It was on her docket.
Dorothy was sharp, right up to the very end. She expressed exactly what she wanted on the properties, and everyone involved delivered it superbly.

Landscaper Jamie Lloyd: Each park will have its own personality. McGee Park is beach block, Beach Terrace Park is beach front, and Point Park is surrounded by the ocean and inlet. They will have different flowers, bushes and trees that will thrive and survive in their own unique environments.

Thank you to the McGee family!
I took my family on a bike ride this holiday weekend and we read books under the shade at your Mother’s
Beautiful park. The landscaping was absolutely stunning and a delight to the eyes.

How wonderful for the people who live on that beautiful street.
It’s a shame only people who live near by can enjoy it not the rest of longport since you can’t park your car on the private streets of point area. Maybe they will let that happen( yeah right)
That makes no sense. Longport is not a large town. Walk or ride your bike.
