The 2026 Ventnor Chef’s Night Out has been cancelled as organizers prioritize the financial health of local restaurants over the annual fundraiser.
While the hiatus protects our favorite eateries from rising costs, it leaves a significant gap in funding for city beautification projects this summer.
2026 Ventnor Chef’s Night Out has been officially cancelled.
Organizers at the Ventnor Beautification Committee cite a “perfect storm” of economic challenges: a sluggish economy, a thin year-round population, and the rising operational costs hitting local restaurateurs.
The event is a vital fundraiser, with ticket revenue funding city improvements like beach trash enclosures, flags, and flowers. However, the “all-donation” model—where eateries provide 100% of food and labor at no cost—has become a heavy lift.
With recent closures of local staples like Kismet Bagels, Bruno’s Market and Water Dog, organizer Shelley D’Orazio opted to spare remaining businesses the burden of feeding 400 guests for free.
There is also a demographic disconnect; held before Memorial Day, the event misses the influx of second-homeowners who drive the seasonal economy.
While the hiatus protects struggling kitchens, it raises a difficult question: Is skipping a year a necessary breather or a risky loss of momentum?
For now, Ventnor’s streets may see fewer banners and blooms this summer as the community prioritizes the survival of its culinary backbone over a one-night feast.

Sounds like Ventnor City staff has heard comments from the participants. Probably a good idea to just skip a year and rethink the schedule for 2027.
Wow! Very bummed as this was a wonderful community building event that also highlighted Ventnor’s eating scene. Just wondering if it still would’ve been successful if the ticket prices were increased a little with some of the additional funds given back to the participating establishments to help offset their cost? Also, perhaps moving it back a week or two would have given more seasonal residence, the opportunity to participate? Anyway, I hope it does return next year!
