Margate Leadership Update

Retired Galloway Police Chief Pat Moran is slated to become Margate’s latest Business Admin, a position that effectively runs the town.

The announcement was buried within Margate’s low profile ‘consent agenda’.

After retirement from law enforcement, Moran was employed as an Absegami High School security guard.

This part-time position will pay an annual salary of $85,000 for a one-year term.

Margate Mayor Collins, Commissioners Horn and Blumberg will discuss their choice during the Thursday, OCT 17 Margate Commission meeting at 5pm.

Residents are encouraged to attend and ask questions about the selection.

What are Moran’s qualifications? What about his background? Will Moran support live ZOOM video of city meetings complete with remote public comments?

234-2024 APPROVING ONE YEAR EMPLOYMENT AGREEMENT WITH PATRICK MORAN AS MUNICIPAL ADMINISTRATOR. (Abbott) Approving a one year agreement with Patrick Moran to serve as a part time Municipal Administrator at a salary of $85,000 per year.

Margate residents do have questions about the Moran pick.

Interesting to note: This vote was buried in the so-called Consent Agenda, items of business which are not controversial & do not require individual discussion. If any discussion is requested on a Consent Agenda item, it is removed from the Consent Agenda to the Regular Agenda.

  1. Concerned Margatian

    This is very concerning news.
What was the process for choosing Mr. Moran?
What are his qualifications for city business management?
Does his education and experience match up with the job description?
    Was the job description posted?
How many hours of work are required for the $85,000 part-time salary?
What was the outcome of the student’s father’s complaint about injury to his daughter?
Are there any other complaints in Mr. Moran’s employment record?

  2. I would have to ask about his qualifications. The other question would be, as usual, how is this important decision made without public knowledge? I suppose that’s rhetorical

  3. Another Concerned Margatian; with More Thoughts:

How does one go from a Police Chief to a Security Guard, and, then a higher position as a Part-Time Business Administrator ($85K/year)?
Who recommended Mr Moran? Relationship to?
    Was there a Vetting process?
What other local towns have Business Administrators? How do they feel about Mr Moran (and, his Business experiences?)?
    Appears/Seems rushed! Being “pushed through”…!!

  4. If Mr. Moran is “retired” how can he be making that much salary from another government position? If he’s pulling pension, the max he may earn from another governmental position is $25k/yr, right?

    1. Moran is receiving a police pension, he is allowed to have another government position not related to fire or police.
Additionally, if the BA position is contractual not receiving benefits, it is permissible.

  5. Curious as to why we need a part-time person for what has always been a full-time job.

How is this person qualified to do this job?

Yes, he was a Police Chief that required budgetary, logistic and organization skills, but how does that make him qualified to be the City of Margate Administrator?

No other candidates that have experience?

Is Margate settling or just another buddy getting a job?

Why so long after Ken Mosca has left the position?

Another Commissioners meeting that is a secret from the public by not having Zoom access?

Come on Mayor Collins and Commissioner Horn, keep your promises from your campaign!

  6. This is very disappointing to hear. Did Margate commissioners not investigate into the history of Mr Moran ? Lawsuits, allegations of wrong doings, assaults, etc. Was this appointment a favor for someone ?

  7. I don’t know anything about Mr. Moran but most of the questions posted here will not be answered because personnel decisions and interviews are not public information and I am surprised a lot of the questions are being asked. Yes a brief bio of Mr. Moran could be posted.

This could be the most important decision the commissioners make but the nature of it is confidential. So in a few months we will see how the decision turns out and if the choice was correct.

  8. Sneaky little no nothing towns always get away with doing favors to those who are friends , those who can do favors for them or those who they owe favors to , those who are relatives etc. etc. This always goes on, it is nepotism – definition – ” the practice among those with power or influence of favoring relatives, friends, or associates, especially by giving them jobs”

  9. Come on Margate! The city’s finances are perfectly in the hands of Horn and Collins. They do what former Commissioner Amodeo wants: spend our tax dollars for their friends.

Hiring this guy is probably, I assume, a favor for Purdy, our Republican county chairman.

Now Collins has a marker to cash in down the road. Is he going for Claire Swift’s seat in the future?

They screwed Maury. Why not Claire Swift?

Margate needs a security guard to protect Margate from the late night Tequilla Bar coming soon.

So it works out for Collins and Horn. You can’t make this up!

  10. I call for a Petition (open to be signed by ALL Taxpayers of Margate). Address it to the Governor for his investigators regarding all the documented behavior by City Officials. Grow some backbone Margate taxpayers. An online Petition, NOW.

  11. Has anyone checked this guy out? Not only is he not qualified to run the financial aspect the job requires, but he has domestic violence charges against him and had all his guns seized. This is the best representative for our city? a disgraced former security guard I think we can do a little a lot better
