How to Cross the Margate Dunes.

Some options for those who may have difficulty crossing the new dune system.

The City of Margate City is supplying a motorized vehicle / dune buggy, to help those who have trouble crossing the news dune system.

Need a lift over those sand mountains? Call the beach patrol office &  schedule. They’ll take you from the bulkhead to the shore line.

Call: 609-822-2370

The first summer of beach shuttle service. Expect growing pains. One vehicle can’t possibly accommodate all those that need it.

Respect the Margate Beach Patrol.

Lifeguards have many responsibilities. Priority #1 is keeping everyone safe.

Margate Beach Wheel Chairs

Some streets have beach wheel-chairs on stand-by. They’re secured to the life guard shacks. A life guard will assist in unlocking it, and helping as best they can.

  • Brunswick Ave
  • Huntington
  • Knight

  • You can call City Hall for a complete list. 609-822-0424

Note: Over the years, Margate has been building handicapped access points through the bulkheads. You can walk-through, versus having to climb up and down the bulkhead stairs.

They build a few new access points every year. Interspersed along the 42 beach entrances.

Note: There are ramps at Andover, Huntington, Osborn and Decatur. This gets you onto the beach, but not over the dunes.

The Army Corp of Engineers built handicapped walk-overs at Huntington & Madison beaches. Many dunes are still difficult to cross over.

Note: Ventnor and Atlantic City have ‘switch back’ paths on their ADA compliant beaches. These are ramps that switch back n forth, as they progress up the hill.

Margate is not finished with this dune work. More feedback is needed. We hope City leaders listen, and make adjustments.
