On Mon July 1, Matthew Hankinson was promoted to the rank of Police Chief of the Margate City Police Department.
Chief Hankinson has been a member of the MCPD since 1995. He’s been an integral part of many successes over the years.
A lifelong resident of Margate, Chief Hankinson has been personally invested in the town. He’s determined to maintain an unmatched level of knowledge, professionalism and accountability in himself and the officers under his command.

I want to congratulate Chief Hankinson on his promotion. I hope that with this new change in leadership more is done about the speeding of cars on Atlantic Avenue and it is monitored the way Longport implements their enforcement of the 25mph speed. Cars on Atlantic Avenue along with the trucks are traveling at such high speeds they couldn’t stop for a pedestrian if they wanted to. There was an accident on Atlantic Avenue Friday night and luckily no one was seriously hurt but it will happen if the Police are not using radar and in full view.
