2026 Herb Stern Longport Scholarship Fund

The Herb Stern Longport Scholarship Fund board of directors has announced the 2026 scholarship awards. Seventeen Longport students will receive a total of $30,050.

Scholarship winners include Longport students who are graduating high school seniors planning to attend college in the Fall, as well as those already attending college or graduate school. 

2026 Herb Stern Longport Scholarship Fund recipients

Students are chosen based on their academic record, test scores, sports and other extracurricular activities, work, and community volunteering. Awards have increased over time, and the Fund has awarded a total of over $270,000 during its 20 years of operation. 

Scholarships are funded by contributions from Longport year-round and seasonal residents. 

The Fund is a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization.

2026 Herb Stern Longport Scholarship Fund recipients:

  • Jackson Agnellini attends Virginia Tech where he is studying finance and real estate. 
  • Tommy Armstrong attends the University of Florida and plans to major in Finance.
  • Luca Bahuriak attends Penn State, studying communications and film production.
  • Eva Engel is graduating from University of Tampa, plans to attend Pratt School of Design.
  • Kal Heyman attends Rowan University, he intends to become a teacher and coach.
  • Sadie Heyman is graduating from Ocean City High School, plans to study nursing at Rutgers.
  • Lyiah Hilton graduates this Spring from Ocean City High School, will attend Rutgers University.
  • Thomas Holton attends Rosemont College and is pursuing a career in sports management.
  • Luke Kramer graduated from Boston University, plans to attend Massachusetts General Hospital Institute of Health Professionals.
  • Jake Meli attends Villanova University and is studying accounting and math. 
  • John Meli attends Stockton University where he is studying accounting.
  • Jack Schiavo attends St. Joseph’s University where he is studying economics and physics.
  • Ryan Slaven graduates from Ocean City High School and will attend Rowan University to study history and secondary education.
  • Kallan Tripician attends Wesleyan University, majoring in Biology and Earth & Environmental Sciences with minor in Informatics and Modeling.
  • Kannon Tripician attends Wesleyan University and is studying physics and engineering.
  • Macey Valtri attends Lynn University and is studying Biology to pursue a career in veterinary medicine.
  • Madison Valtri also attends Lynn University and is studying advertising and marketing.

These scholarships will be publicly presented at the Longport Commission meeting on June 17 at 4:00 pm and the public is invited to attend.  

Contributions are welcome at any time. Checks payable to the Longport Scholarship Fund may be sent to Longport Scholarship Fund, Nicole Schwegman, Treasurer, 2910 Sunset Avenue, Longport, NJ 08403.

Contributions may also be made by credit card or PayPal on the website-longportscholarshipfund.com. This year, donations of $500 or more will receive a thank you from the Fund in the form of a $100 gift card to Betty’s Seafood Shack on the bay in Margate.

    Phil Neri is a Longport resident and the secretary of Beach Terrace Park, Inc., a non- profit organization that founded and maintains the park located on the 1500 block of Beach Terrace (Opening July 4, 2026). He volunteers for Longport’s Beach Sweeps program to keep our beach clean. Phil retired from Independence Blue Cross after a 40-year career.
