How Informed are Ventnor Taxpayers?

Without doing any research and based only on what you currently know, please answer the following questions. I’m trying to determine how much taxpayers know about current city budget and utility issues.

1) Do you know when Ventnor will hold the public hearing on the municipal budget?

2) Do you know whether the municipal tax rate is increasing or decreasing, and by how much?

3) Do you know if there is any increase in the base rate for water and sewer service?

There are no right or wrong answers—this is simply an effort to gauge public awareness and understanding.

Thanks to those of you who responded to my post about the Ventnor budget and water/sewer fees.

Here are the answers:

1. The public hearing on the budget will be this Thursday, 5/28/26, at the 5:30 meeting.

2. The tax increase is 6 cents.

3. The water base fee will increase from $365 to $400 — a $35 increase. The sewer base fee will increase from $385 to $425 — a $40 increase. That is a combined increase of $75, or roughly a 10% increase in the base fees.

What is surprising and disappointing is how little communication there has been about these dramatic increases.

Years ago, increases of this size would have been headline news at the top of the Region section in the Atlantic City Press.

It is also surprising that some of the online news websites that regularly cover important local issues have not reported on the Ventnor budget and clearly informed residents how much more they will be paying this year.

One website did report on the water and sewer increases, but failed to mention the significant tax increase.

I simply wanted to make sure Ventnor residents are aware of how much more they will be paying for city services this year.

Kreischer served as a member of the Ventnor City Commission from 1992 to 2008. He was Mayor for 12 of those years (1996–2008). In April 2021, Tim returned to public service as the Atlantic County Shared Services Coordinator. In this role, Kreischer leverages his decades of municipal experience to help local governments reduce costs by consolidating services like snow removal, engineering, and equipment purchasing.

  1. Ventnor Taxman

Ventnor needs a Taxpayers Association. Think about it. Ventnor taxpayers have NOBODY looking out for their best interest.

Landgraf, Mento and Kriebel boast about increases in tax revenue and ratables….. but taxes never go down. only up. every year.

With so few voters, it’s only gonna get worse.

Landgraf dragging feet on re-vals too.

Landgraf encourages tax abatements and tear downs. Chasing people and business out of town.

Tax abatements for new construction hurts other homeowners.

A few years back, Landgraf put together a hand picked ‘advisory board’ which disbanded almost immediately.

  2. Tommy Weisenburg

Landgraf spends more time at the bars then he does actually working for the people. They also like to selective enforce on certain streets and come and rip out nice backyards and threaten the taxpayers for improving their property in ventnor. Cant wait till the next election to get these criminals out of there.

  3. Taxes have increased 7 cents in 2024, 3.19 cents in 2025 and now a proposed 6 cent incresse!! Imagine that!!

    1. When they say “ 2. The tax increase is 6 cents.“ does that mean a six cents tax increase on every dollar assessed?

  4. Maybe former Mayor Kreisher should look into forming a slate of candiidates and then together plan on what they would do different to lower real estate taxes for all property owners. Both resident owners ( VOTERS) & NON RESIDENT ( NJ disenfranchised property owners ). The next Ventnor Municipal Election is less than 2 years away in 2028.
