Ventnor opened its “Sunset at Ski Beach” Wednesday night concert series at the Dorset and Burk Ave park, drawing one of the largest crowds in the event’s six year history.
The Don’t Call Me Francis Band headlined the season kickoff, with food and craft vendors opening at 5:30pm and live music starting at 6:30pm.
Special Events Assistant Deana Ruiz estimated the turnout at 2,500 to 3,000 people, crediting the strong showing to perfect weather, a fan favorite band, and the midweek holiday crowd.
Commissioner Maria Mento welcomed attendees and noted that last year’s Don’t Call Me Francis performance was cut short after 30 minutes due to a sudden thunderstorm.
Mento said the city is thrilled to continue hosting the Ski Beach concerts, now a staple of Ventnor’s summer lineup.
Ventnor’s other major music series, the Saturday night “Summer Beach Jam” at the Newport Avenue Beach bandshell, began its ninth season on Saturday, June 27.
