Letter to Editor: Remain Vigilant. Oppose Offshore Wind.

Letter to Editor: Remain Vigilant. Oppose Offshore Wind. 1 Letter to Editor: Remain Vigilant. Oppose Offshore Wind.

To the people of Brigantine, Atlantic City, Ventnor, Margate and Longport. we thank all the volunteers who have expressed, with their time, energy, money, research, initiative, attendance at government meetings, etc., their opposition to this massive invasion of our coast by these monstrous offshore turbines.

We have learned the necessity, effectiveness, and wisdom of local groups and governments cooperating to fight what is harmful directly and indirectly to all the people of New Jersey.

This active opposition has helped Orsted, a leading wind energy company, to reconsider and withdraw from, at least for now, its proposed NJ offshore projects.

Offshore-wind developers, green energy proponents and government officials including NJ Governor Murphy continue to publicize and promote false and misleading info regarding jobs and economic benefits to our State from these projects.

Their words are positive and persuasive, designed to deceive and silence opposition. However, numerous analyses and facts reveal the ugly truth of what is being imposed on our coastline by those with power and money, foreign and national, regardless of harmful consequences including increased cost to ratepayers.

They have ignored consideration of reasonable alternatives such as advances in nuclear energy, upkeep and improvements in fuel pipelines and advances in cleaner fossil fuels.

We’re accountable for the ways we have used your donations and present them here.

  • Education/outreach- costs involved in gathering and distributing materials to the public relevant to the many issues involved in offshore wind power
  • Banner plane, billboards.
  • Maintenance of our website
  • Legal representation and the filing of lawsuits in state and, if necessary, federal court
  • Costs involved in holding major fundraisers
  • Cost of buying promotional merchandise for sale

There is reason to believe the incoming President will not support this industrial invasion.

The offshore industry has other problems – safety and bad publicity, durability and disposal of the blades, supply problems, financial weaknesses, etc. Nevertheless, it is necessary to continue our efforts including communication with our government representatives at all levels.

Tell them no more outrageous use of tax credits and subsidies to aid the “ever-needy” offshore industry. That’s our money!

Orsted may be withdrawn now, but Atlantic Shores, its partners and fellow turbine boosters are still out there. They must be stopped.

Offshore wind energy is weather dependent and unreliable (with a necessary fossil-fuel back-up), has problems with longevity and disposal of its blades, costlier than other energy sources, and vulnerable in terms of national security, accidents and storms.

It is the most complex, destructive, inefficient, expensive energy source and has no measurable effect on “climate change”. IT MAKES NO SENSE.

  1. Well said. I would also add that the detrimental economic effect to shore communities who will have their ocean view marred by massive turbines, is a huge factor.

  2. Don’t ignore the offshore communities. The wind turbines need a substation and Egg Harbor Township is the primary target. EHT needs support.

  3. “[Levinson] suggested the wind turbines could be put on land, citing $1.4 million in savings from the wind turbines at the ACUA Water Treatment facility in Atlantic City.”

Reading into this further, Offshore WTGs may not go through in New Jersey, and other mid- Atlantic states, due to the fast- tracking and incompetence of these “projects” that President Trump and Rep. Van Drew have been ultimately aware, and secondarily, the Biden Administration recently excercised the executive authority to close- off and eliminate 625 million acres of federal offshore drilling sites for petroleum products, the largest withdrawal of its kind in U.S. history.

An alternative plan will be to place the WTG farms on land in New Jersey, where infrastructure has already been proposed and planned for, and ultimately, where the owners of these systems were planning the siting of the wind projects for New Jersey; an alternative for Atlantic Shores, LLC, et al. financial gains and elitist “climate change prowess”.

What will the opposition say then?

WTGs are still incredibly bad energy devices, and a whole new set of problems will need to be reviewed.

    Look into it:
