Longport Adopts New Rules for Recreation Facilities

Longport’s new recreation supervisor will manage & establish regulations for use of local athletic facilities. That’s according to the recent commission meeting.

Commissioners approved plan to create rules and regulations for the use of tennis and basketball courts.

In the past, Longport had no written regulations. This allowed organizations to use Longport facilities without reservation.

Board agreed to adopt rules. Signage to be posted at 33rd ave field.

Basketball clinics will need approval and must register times.

Tennis instructors will need to reserve time.

Any organizations using Longport facilities must show proof of insurance.

Residents can reserve a court, up to a week prior to play.

The South Jersey Lifeguard Championships in Longport on Aug. 14. Is it still on? Longport Mayor Nick Russo said NJ could loosen regulations before the event, allowing for more people to gather. Note: Municipality should be aware of liability issues. If the lifeguard event is held, it should be held at 9a with no spectators.

Note: New regulations for trash and recycling collection. Residents required to put out trash and recycling after 6p on Sunday evenings.

Other items up for discussion: Alcohol on the beach becoming a problem.
