Longport Police Chief retires.

Following 25 years of service, Longport Police Chief Frank Culmone is retiring at the end of January.

Culmone was promoted to police chief in April of 2015.

The borough has completed interviews for his successor and will announce the next police chief in the coming weeks.

Longport Post Office

A contractor for USPS visited Borough Hall last summer to see if there is sufficient space to open a retail location. The borough received their proposal last week and offered to pay $2500 monthly rent and requested 7 assigned parking spaces for their employees.

Mayor Patrick Armstrong: We have been working on bringing the post office back since we took office a year ago. This will be huge for Longport and our residents to easily access post office services without the hassle of trying to park on Franklin Ave. I know many people, including myself, miss the post office that was here in Longport.

We went awhile without hearing from them, and we thought they were not interested until just this past week. We will reply to them but have no date except as soon as possible for us. We will try to accommodate the post office however possible.

Longport Library

The upper floor Centennial Room has been unused since 2019 as the condition of the space has deteriorated. In September 2025, the borough approved a resolution to make substantial upgrades and renovations.

Improvements will include larger windows, an updated kitchen, new HVAC system and an elevator. Contractors can begin bidding on the project in February. The grand opening is planned for later this year.
