Longport Voters Consider Tax Increase to Avoid School Deficit

LONGPORT residents may have to dig deeper into their pockets. They’ll be asked to OK a permanent school tax levy increase via a special election referendum.

If approved, $400,000 would be raised to cover the Longport Board of Education’s budget shortfall. If not approved by voters, the Longport budget would in deficit.

The Longport School district has 62 students. Elementary students attend Margate public schools, as well as private and parochial schools. High school students can choose between Atlantic City High School or Ocean City High School.

The vote will take place:  5pm Tuesday, Sept. 29 at Borough Hall.
