Since at least 2018, Longport has grappled with a chronic, persistent rat problem.

Residents still complaining: rats could be coming from the Longport Fire Department and the Beach Patrol boathouse on Atlantic Ave.

Rats can carry disease easily spread to people and pets.

Lots of rat holes underneath the boathouse. A bigger problem than originally imagined? Rodent problem could be from a large amount of trash near firehouse?

NOTE: Longport does not provide live streaming of their public meetings. Mayor Russo still prohibits remote public comment via phone. Large majority of Longport residents are non-voting, second homeowners unable to attend meetings in person.

  1. The Mayor didn’t mention anything about construction sites being properly cleaned and maintained by the builders.

In the 2018 flare up, it was very clear that the poor condition of a home being built on Atlantic Ave was the primary source of the problem yet the site continued to look like a dump in spite of multiple complaints.

Laughable to suggest that anyone should call the Mayor with questions or comments. I have never once had any of my calls or emails returned or even acknowledged.
