Margate Burger Bus Out of Gas?

The Margate Burger Bus still not road ready. Like a truck on the side of a road that ran out of gas, there’s no sign of any construction at the take out eatery shaped like a truck. Not open for the all important July 4th weekend. The dumpster is gone, and so is the scaffolding.

Old Stewarts Rootbeer property to be resurrected soon? Local rumblings say boarded up property at corner of Douglas & Ventnor Ave. could be occupied by another restaurateur in the very near future. This prime location is one of a very few available retail locations in Margate.


Owner of Ventura’s Greenhouse wants a high-rise. They delayed a presentation at the recent commissioners meeting on June 18. Ventura would like to build an 8 story, high rise condo & restaurant on that site next to Lucy. The plan exceeds the current 35 foot building height restriction.

Opponents of proposed Ventura’s plan say it will increase congestion and noise. Even bigger fear: approvals of even more high rise properties in the future. If Margate Commissioners green light the project, other properties could then apply to build additional high rises.

From the business archives > Lucy the Elephant was built to attract real estate investors to this portion of Absecon Island. Back then, Lucy was situated on Cedar Grove in Margate. After a successful SAVE LUCY campaign that saved this landmark from teardown, she was moved 2 blocks away to Decatur Ave. in 1970.
