Margate Residents Losing More Bay Views Along Amherst Ave.

Watch Amherst Ave. drone video.

Amazing drone video of new construction along Amherst Ave in Margate. Recorded on Oct. 30, 2024 by Ron T. Brown.

Video shows construction of a three-story, elevated building with bait shop on the first floor, a 150-seat restaurant on the second floor. Offices will be on the third floor. The property was former home to Captain Andy’s Marina.

Keep building restaurants with no place to park your car. Great. Welcome to Sea Isle City North.

The Harbour Bay property sits across from Sofia’s Restaurant who tried to block the redevelopment plans.

According to Press of AC: Sofia, [Two Daughters LLC] said Harbour Bay didn’t testify about hardships and positive or negative criteria about the variances and failed to require a traffic study, according to the complaint, and the Planning Board’s actions were arbitrary, capricious and unreasonable in approving the site plan application, variances and waiver request. The company was also waived from submitting a traffic impact study.

Margate Planning Board is lead by Mayor Mike Collin’s father, Tom.

Mayor Collins and his father, along with Solicitor Scott Abbott, accused of keeping quiet about size and scope of various Margate development projects.

Public Comment: The Margate Planning Board still blocking live ZOOM video of meetings. Tom Collins supports prohibition of remote public comment from 2nd homeowners.

Drone used for this Amherst Ave flyover was the DJI Air 3S. Settings were 4k 30fps.

  1. Another example of the self-appointed royalty of Margate paying no attention to the will of the people of Margate. We must wonder about how much their pockets will be lined. As one of our Presidential candidates implied, this is a city, not a kingdom.

  2. Unless you own a bayfront home then you may or may not have a view. It’s a similar issue with oceanfront views. With that said, the struggle will always be how busy traffic-wise and where to park. Yes, you can take a ride share but you have out of towners, golf carts, etc.

    1. Tom Collins service on the Zoning-Planning Board must end. He continues to make decisions which is destroying Margate’s charm and feel. Unless his supporters wake up soon, the granting of variance after variance by Big Tom and his board is going to destroy our town. Can’t park in the summer! Businesses can’t survive the off season rents. Be careful crossing the street or riding your bike! Taquilla bar open until 4am coming soon (98% lot coverage and no parking)! A contaminated parking lot for his employees! When is the high rise condominium building coming to the Bay Area? Is that Big Tom’s vision? Buy your building supplies and kitchens from Big Tom! Can you say greedy!!!

      1. Concerned resident

Let’s not forget Commissioner Horn ‘s family business “Horn Electric” who has the electrical construction contract for the new bay development. The greed and good old boy network is alive and well, all being led by the Puppet Masters (John Amedeo and Tom Collins) pulling the strings of Commissioners Collins and Horn.

  3. You don’t buy property for the views. If you wanted the views, they should’ve bought it years ago before the current owners bought it and then had to go through a multi year long legal battle to build.

  4. I listened to Vaughan Reale and Harry Hurley telling me to vote for these guys. Now I find out Reale gave a 75 year lease for basically no money costing taxpayers big dollars. What a dope.

And Hurley supported these corrupt self serving politicians telling us he was impressed with them.

Now I realize he never spoke to the challengers. Never again!

Next time I’m voting for real change! I just hope this city isn’t destroyed by then.

  5. The voters spoke a year ago and their good ole boys got in.

    Too late to complain now.
In just over two years the voters can make another decision.

By then it may be too late.

  6. Yes, Amherst Ave is being destroyed little by little. First the state ruined the beach now Margate ruining Amherst Avenue. It has nothing to do with resident’s views; but the feel of the town. So very sad.

  7. Margate Mayor and admins rudely don’t reply to emails.

Margate remains ONLY beach town anywhere to NOT have no smoking signs on beach entrances- why not?

Why not on the lifeguard stands? Replace the NO ball playing.

Also… need more ride with flow traffic on bikes on Winchester, Ventnor and Monmouth ave like they do on Atlantic.

Also enforce NO DOGS on Amherst Ave promenade.

  8. I would like to see the City purchase the commercial property on Benson Ave. below Amherst for a two hr limit parking area.Looks like you can park about 20 cars in that area. That will relieve the area of some of the potential parking issues.Bay area parking is tough right now.

    1. I agree. They should also buy the parcel on Washington & Monmouth corner. The usual suspects will complain that it’s a waste of taxpayer dollars at the same time they complain about lack of parking.
