On Sunday July 22, at approx 3p, a NJ Transit bus struck a Margate woman. The incident took place in the intersection of Ventnor and Franklin Aves in Margate.
One witness tells DownbeachBUZZ the female pedestrian may have tripped or fallen prior to being struck by the bus.
Another witness tells DownbeachBUZZ the bus looked to have made a typical left turn from Ventnor Ave onto Franklin Ave where the bus would normally turn around and / or park.

Witness: The bus was stopped midway into the turn. Underneath the bus, perpendicular, was a woman whose head and upper body were exposed, but from the waist down, she was underneath the bus – in the middle of the bus.
There was a woman sitting on the ground holding the victims hands. It was a horrific scene.
Margate PD and FD were able to remove the woman from under the bus and transported her to Atlantic Care in Atlantic City.
According to Margate PD: The injured pedestrian complained of pain to her ankle.
POLICE REPORT: Margate officers met with the driver of the bus who stated he was traveling west on Ventnor Avenue and made a left turn onto South Franklin Ave. He stated he didn’t see anyone and heard people yelling, “Stop.” At that point, he stopped the bus. Driver stated the bus has one front camera and advised Margate PD on how to obtain the footage. As of July 23, Margate PD still attempting to get video footage from the bus.
NOTE: Should Margate’s NJ Transit lot become a municipal parking lot?
