Pickleball Petition Questions Ventnor $150 Summer Fee

Ventnor Pickleball Mayor Kriebel

Will Ventnor Mayor OK proposed $150 pickleball summer pass? A pretty hefty price hike from last year. From $75 to a proposed $150 for a summer season pass.

An online petition was started. Close to 100 signatures questioning the price hike recommended by the Ventnor Recreation Dept.

But wait… before that $150 becomes official, a resolution might be needed? Looks that way.

The public can voice their opinions at the next Ventnor Commission meeting, May 28.

From petition starter Andy Lachman:

Kudos to Mayor for responding to emailed petition. He [Mayor Tim Kriebel] said, “… there is currently a recommendation from the Recreation Board regarding court fees, but no final action is scheduled. There is, however, a Commission meeting on May 28th, at which time action will be taken regarding court fees. I will also include your group’s additional comments and concerns as part of the public discussion at that time.”

Ventnor Pickleball online petition:

It has come to our attention that there is a possibility of raising the pickleball and tennis court fees to $150. This represents a 50% increase from last year and a doubling of the fees compared to previous years.

We respectfully request that the fee not be increased. Although we appreciate the improvements made to the courts, we believe that the substantial taxes we already pay should allow for only a nominal fee for court use.

Paying 50% more than last year does not seem justified under these circumstances.

Over the past years, we have been paying high fees for courts that were in poor condition. The recent renovations have brought the courts up to the standard of those in Margate.

It is worth noting that Margate only charges $100 for court use, and their tax rate is 50% lower than that of Ventnor.

Additionally, other new recreational facilities provided in the area, like the basketball courts, do not require participants to pay fees. This raises questions about the fairness of imposing such a significant increase for pickleball and tennis courts. Please reconsider the increase.

  1. Fee should be double for anyone who doesn’t have a Ventnor address on their drivers license or Ventnor tax bill. That is the only fair way.
