Wind turbine companies to bury cancer-causing cables underneath and near the neighborhoods, schools and playgrounds of the 5th ward in Atlantic City?
That’s the warning given by Atlantic City Councilman George Tibbitt during his WPG radio appearance, Friday, Sept. 20.
Tibbitt: New councilman Huq spit on the residents of 5th ward. Many can’t speak English, some are afraid of being deported. Many not fully aware of how this wind project will hurt them.
Tibbitt: 5th ward candidate Maria Lacca can help the 5th ward.

Lacca: “The wind turbine project will tear up the Fifth Ward for almost three years. It will close Pete Pallitto Field too.
‘It’s a disgrace that as his first vote, Mohammed Huq threw residents of the Fifth Ward under the bus,’ said Maria Lacca, who will challenge Huq on Nov 5.
Tibbitt: 300 voters from the Ocean Club Condo on the Boardwalk made a mistake about the previous councilman, Muhammad Zia, who was found to live in EHT, not AC. Will Ocean Club make the same mistake again on NOV 5?
Tibbitt: There are much better, less disruptive routes for those cables that will run just 3ft under neighborhoods, schools, and playgrounds.
Tibbitt: Speaking with Huq is like talking to a wall.
Wind company power lines placed so close to families could cause childhood leukemia.
Councilman George Tibbitt.
Tibbitt: I see weakness in Gov Murphy. He needs to step the hell up. NJ Gov Murphy is weak in dealing these AC child abuse issues.
Crazy fact: Mayor Marty Small, indicted for child abuse, also plays role of AC Director of Public Safety.
The RITZ condo will also face major issues. Major construction right next door. For years.
Tibbitt: Give AC Police Chief Sarkos the opportunity to handle this.
AC Schools: Poor test scores, teen pregnancy, declining graduation rate, dropping enrollment.
Casino traffic is way down. Tourist traffic too. Stores are shutting down. People are leaving AC.
More paranoid fear mongering and fake science used to manipulate the weak and uneducated. Shame on you!! If these elected officials are so concerned then what’s the plan to help these same people when their children are forced to go to war to protect oil interests, forced to relocate because of rising seas flooding their homes and so on…. You don’t care about them… oy holding on to power and pocketing money from big oil. Shame.
Jason, maybe if they used imminent domain for your house you would change your tone. Always the people not affected speaking nonsense. The biergarten, homes, and recreational park will all be impacted. People will lose their jobs and homes. How’s that for the great veil called green energy?
Now some facts:
More than 70% of the U.S. energy is from gas and oil (https://www.eia.gov/energyexplained/us-energy-facts/data-and-statistics.php)
The environmental cost of wind mills and solar is actually much worse than gas and oil production (https://www.forbes.com/sites/christopherhelman/2021/04/28/how-green-is-wind-power-really-a-new-report-tallies-up-the-carbon-cost-of-renewables/ and https://hbr.org/2021/06/the-dark-side-of-solar-power)
P.S.
Not to mention slave labor and work conditions where all this stuff is made in China mostly.
Power lines causing childhood leukemia was debunked decades ago. Not true. Not at all. Period….and perhaps you should have read the article you referenced regarding renewables… “Increasingly these old blades are being put to modest new use — broken down, ground up and added to cement as filler. All progress on the long path to net-zero.”
Btw…. Oil and gas are global commodities. Doesn’t matter how much is sucked from the soil beneath the U.S. it all goes to the highest bidder. Not a single law that requires it he used her first before going overseas. No politician on either side of the aisle will pass laws keeping oil and gas here. Not happening. Keep voting for carpet bagger snake oil peddlers and your front yard will beach front property
Jason – where do you get your information?
Here is what I took away from the article in Forbes that you linked:
“Good news: amortizing the carbon cost over the decades-long lifespan of the equipment, Bernstein determined that wind power has a carbon footprint 99% less than coal-fired power plants, 98% less than natural gas, and a surprise 75% less than solar. “
I’ve been trying to stay open minded to the pros and cons of wind / solar. One piece of info that seems real to me is that we have to reduce our carbon footprint to reverse the trends we are causing with respect to climate. Change is hard, but necessary.
Also worth noting, there are buried power cables coming from existing power plants, so I don’t see that as an argument against wind power…
This is crazy. I was at the meeting. It was clear Mohammed Hug did not even understand what he was voting on. This is such a disgrace. Thank you Councilman Tiddbitt for standing up. We need more people like you. Sad that many others on council, including the Mayor are selling out Atlantic City.
If electrical lines/cables cause cancer, then we are all doomed. Just look at all the wires surrounding us on the streets on telephone poles! They are everywhere. We are all doomed.
There have been buried cables for decades. Most advanced civililizations (not AC) encourage them to offset set the outages and incurred expense of repairing above ground wires from storms.(anyone listening). The oil lobbyists are spreading the money around to political talking heads to spread fear. I don’t think oil wells off of AC is a good alternative. We must embrace climate necessity, buried electrical cables are safe and a distraction for the well paid to convince us of the opposite.
