PODCAST: Atlantic City Mayor Blames BRT, Chelsea Bar for Beach Concert issues?

AC Mayor Defends BRT 3-Day Beach Event.

On Sunday morning APRIL 27, Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small took a break from legal issues regarding his alleged abuse of his teenage daughter.

Small met for 90 minutes with 5th ward neighbors regarding a 3-day Caribbean concert that’s already selling tickets and will attract up to 20,000 attendees.

The show, BRT Beach Road Trip, may not have proper permits or proper insurance.

Small blames a politically motivated campaign against him by some residents.

During the meet-up, Small disparaged Rocco Sebastiani, developer of the long shuttered Atlantic Club property.

Small told the 150+ attendees he’s doubtful that Rocco Sebastiani’s condo/hotel project at the former Atlantic Club will pan out. Instead, Mayor Small touted a race track concept at Bader Field.

Rocco Sebastiani planning to convert the original Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino into 108 luxury condominiums and a 330 room hotel.

After 2 years of permitting delays, NJ Gov Murphy removed Mayor Small and his Atlantic City building department from having any role in that project.

The corruption of the building department under Marty Small kept my project suppressed. I was told by many city guys, if I sit with the Mayor and Anthony Cox, I would get my permit quick. I chose not to pay to play

Small ignored warnings from meet-up organizers team and took shots at mayoral candidate Bob McDevitt, his opponent in the upcoming June primary.

I’m not one of those politicians that tell people what they want to hear. I’m very blunt. I’m very honest. That concert in front of the Ocean Club, I did not know that the concert was scheduled for the Chelsea Beach Bar.

The Ocean Club is the largest non-casino taxpayer here in Atlantic City. Marty Small took offense to that.

Everyone knows what’s going on with me personally. It is a personal matter. When you find out who I was trying to protect my daughter from, you would literally understand.

Marty Small: I’m innocent until proven guilty.

Marty Small: I’m meeting with owner of Chelsea Beach Bar and the promoter. We are going to talk about some alternative sites.

Marty Small: We’re also trying to see if we can find an alternative site for the bar. Remove the bar from in front of the Ocean Club and come up with some type of new deal. Those discussions are happening.

I wanted to come here this morning so you can hear it directly from me, not from people that’s trying to run a smear campaign to turn neighbors against me.

Marty Small: Ocean Club, the largest tax non casino taxpayer. You know this amount of votes. I said don’t threaten me.

I’ve always been a man of my word and I always say that the Small administration says what it means and means what it says.

Our first notice of this was when we saw the advertisement for tickets. Don’t sell tickets unless you’re having an event.

Public Comment: What we learned: they don’t have a permit. And from my perspective, if you see somebody’s advertising tickets and they don’t have a permit, there’s a permitting process in place that they did not follow

Marty Small: Here’s what happened. BRT has been coming to Atlantic City for a series of years. They bring a bunch of people which I think we all want here. So what happened last year, there was a financial discrepancy with BRT coming here to the city.

Marty Small: (BRT) owed the city a lot of money and didn’t want to pay.

Marty Small: I told the BRT promoter, let’s work it out and come back. Once the satisfactory agreement with the payment was made, we went into my office and we took a picture and I said, BRT is back. I think what happened is he got a verbal from the Chelsea Beach Bar saying, I want you to have it here. And he was assuming that the Chelsea Beach Bar would follow through with all the paperwork.

Marty Small: I said at the time I did not know it was at the Chelsea Beach Bar and then once we got that information you know we immediately said that no way it just wasn’t possible so I’ve been reviewing the leases in the documents and I can say it’s not the city’s fault that the owner of the bar has not been transparent in terms of telling us his ideas and what he plans to do.

Public Comment: There is a requirement in the lease that the BEACH BAR has a million dollar primary insurance which would cover liquor liability, general liability, meaning if somebody has an accident due to their negligence they’re responsible, as well as automobile liability if some vehicle in their control strikes somebody or causes damage to somebody they have coverage for that. There’s also what’s known as an excess policy or an umbrella policy which requires $4 million for the same coverages, liquor liability, general liability, and automobile liability. That is, especially with the liquor liability, and I speak from experience, a million dollars worth of liquor liability, one accident will be wiped out in one accident.

Marty Small: We weren’t the author of the original contract. It was done by the state of New Jersey. We will look into that. It was the financial burden on the city.

They’re still advertising as of this morning 3001 Boardwalk / Beach is the Goldfish Beach Club venue area and that’s where all their maps are and all the tickets

Since they’re already selling tickets for the beach event at 3001 Boardwalk / Beach, what happens when people show up to the wrong address. We’re worried about safety and security.

In 2022 when Tropicana had a party on the beach, it was a disaster. There was marijuana all over. There was cocaine, alcohol, and ladies (and men) were all half dressed in a very unpleasant manner. This zone should be a residential zone. These people have grandchildren, you couldn’t walk on that boardwalk during that event.

Marty Small: As far as marijuana, we all know it’s legal. ( to purchase, NOT smoke in public ) As far as cocaine, I can’t speak to that. That’s an enforcement issue. (blaming Police Chief Sarkos?)

What they wear, whether it’s a man or a woman, that’s a choice that they make. That’s the Caribbean culture you know, I wouldn’t dress like that. That’s their culture. The BRT; Beach Road Trip. It’s really like a Caribbean festival. We can’t tell people how to dress. If someone was 100 % no clothes on, that’s a crayon of another color.

Marty Small: Yes, Mayor Small wanted BRT back. But when I heard that it was happening at the Chelsea Beach Bar, I said, absolutely not.

Marty Small: No one knows what’s going to happen there (former Atlantic Club). There’s all kinds of stories going on. I never met the guy (Rocco S.). He accuses me of being corrupt. He accuses our building department of being corrupt. No one would like more business and activity to put more ratables on the tax base than us. But look, if the Atlantic Club comes on, so…I can’t answer that because I don’t have the confidence standing before you right now that anything is going to happen over there because no, but is he going to be completed? The owner of that project. So what I’m saying, I don’t have any confidence at this moment that anything is going to be done. And maybe some things that you don’t know about. Well, that’s that’s above my pay grade. I can’t answer that question.

June 10th is a very important election here in the great city of Atlantic City. It matters who your mayor is. And I’m going to just say this is the only time I’m going to mention my opponent. Bob McDevitt, who’s running against me for mayor, he’s the same Bob McDevitt. Like a thief in the night, during COVID, we all remember came and tried to take the Atlantic City government away. Remember we all supported that vote no campaign?

My opponent likes to say that Atlantic City isn’t clean and Atlantic City isn’t safe.

So when people want to say Atlantic City is not clean, Atlantic City is not safe. I’m the only mayor in the history of the city to address the homelessness issue. It is out of control.

Marty Small: I’m the one that got $24 million to pave Atlantic Avenue, and the casinos got in the way and they sued

I came up with my Stockton educated brain.

  1. I’m absolutely sick and tired of hearing Marty Small. The City of Atlantic City is a mess. We still have homelessness and addict’s everywhere.

I’m done with his bullying and acting like a ignorant jackass in and out of the public eye. The only people that actually vote for him is people who want to stay in his good favor or else.

I’m sick of the city looking a mess, the roads are horrible. And all this was way before his troubles with his daughter.

He’s been ignoring a lot of areas where people don’t like nor support him.

The City of Atlantic City use to be a very beautiful place. He’s been Mayor for how long and he still has no couth, no respect and has the nerve to want to be Mayor again! Wow!

He should have stepped aside and handled his family business. But instead he decided he’s untouchable.

We are all definitely going to see about that…Bob McDevit for Mayor

  2. As a resident of Atlantic City for 40 years, formerly homeless, and worked in construction, I am familiar with Small’s track record.

He talks but he’s never walked the walk. Maybe Bob can do something

  3. Absecon Islander

AC Mayor Marty Small caught in another lie. City allowed ticket sales without proper event permits. Press of Atlantic City and Stockton protect that liar Marty Small, and his horrible wife, the School Superintendent. Both are abusers.
