Should Margate rebuild it’s long gone boardwalk? Hear about how some local residents are pushing forward to research the feasibility of rebuilding Margate’s boardwalk.
10:30a Saturday, July 13. Ross School. 8103 Winchester Ave.
Long time resident Glenn Klotz is spearheading the idea of building this new, wooden walkway. Why? The new dune & beach sewer pipes have created impediments to views & easy access. Margate Commissioners got an earful last year about those ugly issues.
Klotz and the Friends of the Margate Boardwalk will present: ‘A Margate Boardwalk for the 21st Century.’ The presentation will feature video and a lively discussion.
Margate boardwalk:
- Originally built in 1906
- Severely damaged in a 1944 hurricane.
- Ash Wednesday Storm of 1962 took out last remaining pieces
The goal is to extend the current Absecon Island boardwalk from Fredericksburg Ave. on the Ventnor border.
Klotz: We’ve collected data and will share it with the public. We gathered research and a variety of input from engineering companies and other professionals. Now it’s time to share the info, and gauge public support.
A Margate boardwalk would take the so-called dead zone (area between the bulkhead & dune) and transform it into a much needed, functional, public space.
Specifically, Klotz wants better access to the beach for seniors and the disabled. Walkers, runners and bike riders would get great value too.
