Margate, Ventnor and Longport see spike in preventable car thefts.

On Tuesday, July 20, 2021 at approximately 1:28am, the Longport Police Department received an anonymous call regarding three suspicious individuals in the area of North Pelham Avenue.

Patrol advised that individuals were seen pulling on vehicle door handles.

Within minutes, Ptlm. Morelli (assisted by Ptlm. Lupperger and Sgt. Silva) arrived on location and observed three individuals entering a 2013 Black Ford Focus. This vehicle was stolen out of Washington Township.

The three individuals fled from police and were not apprehended; however two juvenile males were found inside the stolen vehicle and were taken into custody.

Later on the morning of 7/20 at approximately 7a, a 2019 BMW X1 Sport Utility Vehicle was reported stolen.

The owner believes it was taken between 1:00-1:30am. Keys were left inside vehicle.

One juvenile has been charged on summonses and released while the other was released to his parents by order of the Atlantic County Prosecutors Office Legal Advisor.

The Longport Police Department received mutual aid from members of the Margate City and Ventnor City Police Departments.

On 7/19/21 at approximately 3:10pm, officers were dispatched to the 2000 block of Beach Terrace for a report of a stolen motor vehicle.

Information gathered on the scene revealed a 2018 Land Rover had been taken sometime around 11am. An immediate investigation was carried out by officers Ricciotti, Tibbitt, and Sikoryak and at approximately 3:33pm, the vehicle was recovered by longport officers inside the city of margate.

No arrests have been made at this time; however, the investigation remains ongoing at this time.

Margate police officers assisted in the recovery of the stolen sports utility vehicle. No further information at this time.

  1. These Juveniles need to be put in jail not released to their parents.
    People should be locking their cars the minute they exit the vehicle.
