Sherri Lilienfeld, a well-known real estate broker with a background in chemical engineering authored the initial Construction Pollution Ordinance for Margate.
NBC 10’s Ted Greenberg explains issue:
Lilienfeld has been working closely with Stephen Jasiecki, Chairman of Sustainable Margate to promote this ordinance through-out the state of New Jersey. Both accepted the award on behalf of Sustainable Margate.
Lilienfeld: We were alarmed that contractors didn’t realize the health and environmental hazards they were creating. There was no municipal oversight. Virtually no enforcement.
Sherri Lilienfeld: We addressed this with Margate government to see how they can update the building codes to include containment and cleanup measures.
It’s not just plastic and microplastic materials that are a problem from construction sites, it’s also fiberglass, silica dust, styro-foam and other contaminants entering our bays, ocean, air, food and bodies.
“It is an honor to take time to recognize Margate and the work they are doing to create a healthy environment for all,” said Randall Solomon, director of Sustainable Jersey.
