Fair warning to those who drive and park in Margate. Don’t get towed. A new ordinance was introduced on April 18 that could allow Margate to handover it’s towing efforts to private contractors.

Margate wants to get out of the towing business.

According to the recent Margate Commissioners department head meeting, towed cars could soon be stored at 1333 Arctic. Ave. in Atlantic City. LISTEN BELOW.

  1. 1. cleanup and removal of accident debris is responsibility of tower. Does this include hazardous materials ie gasoline, oils, etc.?

    2. .pdf ends at Section 11 title only. Towing Fees Schedule, damage reporting not included. Also no inclusion of storage fees. Is Margate to receive any % of fees collected?

    3. Will Tow-away-zones be clearly marked with vehicle recovery details and fee limits posted?

    4. Will tow-away be in lieu of ticketing for illegal parking, or is towing/ticketing at the sole discretion of the police?

    1. None of the lots in the 1200 and 1300 block of Arctic Avenues are private tow lots. They are either AC or County Employee parking lots. Someone is mistaken.

  2. Just want to put some facts out to the public who is voicing concerns….first and foremost Margate City has had private towing companies performing police & City towing since the eighties. Nothing is changing other than the city not having the “storage lot” for towed vehicles anymore. So instead of a towed vehicle being in the Margate City Tow Lot it will now be in Atlantic City just as all Ventnor and Longport police departments do presently. Just as these neighboring towns all fees charged are set, governed and overseen by the city where a private towing company operates on behalf of that municipalities police dept. So all in all other than where one would have to retrieve their vehicle nothing is changing in Margate in regards to the private towing operation for the police department.
