New trash and recycling enclosures.
During the off season, Department of Public Works (DPW) built new enclosures to secure trash and recycling bins and prevent debris from blowing across the sand. So far, 38 units have been completed and installed.
The remaining enclosures will be finished by mid-June and placed at all beach access points.

Once beach installations are complete, the new units will also replace older receptacles at Ski Beach and the recreation fields.
Public Works staffing.
Full time DPW staff are joined each summer by seasonal employees, mostly teachers and college students who help remove trash, walk the beaches and boardwalk edges and maintain public restrooms.

All seasonal workers are back this year, including one who has been serving the city for over 25 years.
Beach
The most recent beach replenishment held up well through a harsh winter with no significant erosion affecting summer use.

Crews have begun leveling the sand with the raker. Seaweed remains the most common debris collected along with occasional crab shells, driftwood, and fishing net.
Daily raking has begun.

Thank you to all the DPW staff and all they do for us all year long!
great job rick and all the devoted staff
Thank you, DPW, for replacing the board on the Boardwalk at Melbourne. There are many, many more that are hazards to walkers and bikers. Please get these replaced soon. You know where they are. You have the pictures.
