Ventnor’s Public Works boss Rick Santoro, provided update on Summer 2026 preparations.

The following Ventnor beaches will be open for Memorial Day weekend:

Starting Saturday May 23, beaches will be guarded daily from 10am to 6 pm: Suffolk Ave, Dorset Ave, New Haven Ave, Layfette Ave.

New trash and recycling enclosures.

During the off season, Department of Public Works (DPW) built new enclosures to secure trash and recycling bins and prevent debris from blowing across the sand. So far, 38 units have been completed and installed.

The remaining enclosures will be finished by mid-June and placed at all beach access points.

Once beach installations are complete, the new units will also replace older receptacles at Ski Beach and the recreation fields.

Full time DPW staff are joined each summer by seasonal employees, mostly teachers and college students who help remove trash, walk the beaches and boardwalk edges and maintain public restrooms.

All seasonal workers are back this year, including one who has been serving the city for over 25 years.

Beach

The most recent beach replenishment held up well through a harsh winter with no significant erosion affecting summer use.

Crews have begun leveling the sand with the raker. Seaweed remains the most common debris collected along with occasional crab shells, driftwood, and fishing net.

Daily raking has begun.

  1. Thank you, DPW, for replacing the board on the Boardwalk at Melbourne. There are many, many more that are hazards to walkers and bikers. Please get these replaced soon. You know where they are. You have the pictures.
