Ventnor Upgrades: Pickleball, Basketball, Tennis Courts, Boardwalk & Beach

Watch video. May 9, 2024 Mtg.

According to estimates, it would cost at least $14 mil to rebuild the aging Ventnor Boardwalk between Jackson Ave and Ventnor Pier.

But thanks to NJ’s $100 mil Boardwalk Preservation Fund, Ventnor will be awarded $7 mil to help pay that bill.

The Ventnor Boardwalk was rebuilt in 1962 after a major, mid-Atlantic storm.

Today, pilings and support structure showing deepening signs of rot and weakness.

Objective: replace sections of the boardwalk and foundation with treated timber pilings using upgraded design.

Install more ADA-compliant ramps.

  • $1 mil to rebuild tennis, pickleball and basketball courts, complete with new fencing.
  • $1 mil for beach replenishment.

Major Ventnor pickleball court project.

Short-term repairs to the courts for now, with major work in the winter.

Public comment from Pat Harrigan and Paul Rogers.

FYI: Serious beach erosion near Buffalo Ave. The beach is unusable there, during high tide. Ventnor may have to ban canopies in that location.

Ugh: Ventnor basketball court along the boardwalk could be closed all summer due to insurance issues. Basketball courts deemed potentially dangerous. Asphalt seriously cracking.

Note: Ventnor Recreation Dept being asked to hold meetings at City Hall so that more can attend or watch online via Zoom. Residents often in the dark with Ventnor Rec activity.

Ventnor needs better system of informing public of legal notices. Email would be best.
