Small believes his ability to govern has been enhanced, not diminished, when he and his wife were accused of abusing their teen daughter.

Small currently facing significant legal challenges which he frames as politically motivated.
Mayor Marty Small wants AC police chief Sarkos to prioritize residential neighborhoods over the tourism district.
“Chief Sarkos would tell you that I said Atlantic City can’t just be about the tourism district. Our priority needs to be the neighborhoods.”
Small rejects proposals for hiring more police officers. He claims this is financially unfeasible. Marty Small dismisses call to hire 100 more police officers as a “crazy statement”.
Public safety experts agree: Atlantic City could use another 75-100 cops on the street. Small disagrees. Instead, the Mayor approved spending millions for hiring of ‘violence interrupters’.
Marty Small Quote: “It’s easier said than done when you make a crazy statement that we should hire a 100 more police officers. Who is going to pay for it?”
Is Small pro-development? He’s often accused of corruption. Recently, got into dispute with developer Rocco Sebastiani and the Atlantic Club property. Small takes offense at multiple claims that both he and the city’s construction official, Anthony Cox, are corrupt.

Small’s Cannabis Flip-Flop. For past 2 years, Small wanted AC to become the cannabis capital of the east coast. Currently, 15 cannabis operations exist in AC with another 20 possibly on the way.
