Margate infrastructure update: the city is currently executing a $3.5 million transformation of Washington Avenue, designed to visually and physically connect the beach and bay .

A permanent traffic shift. The entire corridor—from Atlantic to Amherst— will soon become a one-way westbound street.

It’s not just about paving. The project introduces a new protected bike lane on the north side, widened brick paver sidewalks, and curb ‘bump-outs’ that reduce pedestrian crossing distances by nearly 40% .

Crews are also planting 47 Honey Locust trees to match the historic City Hall aesthetic.

Construction is active right now through the winter.

The goal is to have the new utilities, drainage, and streetscape fully operational by Spring 2026, just in time for the summer season.
