Why no talk about NYC casinos prepping to inflict massive pain on a struggling Atlantic City?

Maybe local media getting paid to keep quiet. To date, newspapers and radio seem to be ignoring the competitive threat. Maybe due to fear of losing advertising dollars?

Three New York City casinos could represent a death blow to Atlantic City’s already shaky future.

Ever politician has been saying this for years. Diversify the economy. No kidding.

Until AC takes crime seriously, businesses will continue to suffer. Most investors will stay on the sidelines. AC will not survive with weed stores on every corner and a Bader Field race track. These won’t replace millions in lost casino revenue once the three new NYC casinos are up and running.

Did you know? New York now prepping to grant three gaming licenses to operators that will directly compete with the 9 Atlantic City casinos.

Proposed projects are full-scale casino resorts, including Caesars, MGM, Hard Rock, Wynn, and Bally’s.

FACT: NY Casinos Will Hurt Atlantic City. Really Bad.

Officials in New Jersey still quiet about this looming threat. AC Mayor Marty Small had no comment, neither does CRDA, the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority. Atlantic County Commissioner Ernest Coursey scoffs at the thought of more AC competition.

Bad odds for AC casino success when NYC enters game

Atlantic City casinos can’t afford to lose business. According to PLAYNJ, there are almost 25% fewer casino jobs today than in 2019

In-person gaming is the most important metric for a healthy Atlantic City. The AC casino ‘foot traffic’ number is generally down, while online gambling and sports betting are up.

  1. 1) get rid of this dumb as a rock mayor and his thugs.
    2) focus on crime and reallocate funds to increase policing (target drugs, homeless, theft, and violent crimes).
    3) make sure laws are enforced the first time they’re committed.
    4) demolish all the vacant and decrepit properties.
    5) develop more interest by driving new development (commercial and residential)
    6) reduce the damn weed stores and public smoking
    7) bring in vocational training for current residents to get an actual living wage
    8) create more after-school programs for kids
    9) create new activities and events
    10) market the beach and get rid of ridiculous boardwalk stores that sell drug periphenilia, adult oriented clothes, and the like. Look at OC NJ or OC MD ad example storefronts.
    11) make a true university zone by Stockton and bring others in (science, technology, etc.)
    ……
    That’s a start.

New York still has the mob
In modern times organized crime has its hand in the gaming industry. The Philly mob when it was would never allow New York to pull its mess in Atlantic City. Atlantic City created its own monster and will have to live with it

  3. Joel (commentary) said it all with outlining comprehensive SOLUTIONS! Unless and until they are implemented, NO PROGRESS WILL OCCUR! With the natural attributes AC offers and with the boardwalk, it’s such a shame it is not thriving!

    1. How about the far more realistic scenario of implementing 2-3 of them. Many while well intended requires huge funding, infrastructure and a lot of time.

And as for the mayor, he was duly elected and the burden to “get rid of him” falls on the electorate. Despite the predictable allegations of wrongdoing made on here, he’s not charged with a crime nor is there even any indication of investigation- other than many disagree with his decisions.

    2. @BE REALISTIC Agree on a practical strategy. I would say starting with #2,#3, and #4. Safety and perception of image goes a long way. The rest can happen organically.
