Earlier this month, the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs released a report that showed Ventnor had the third highest average property tax bill in Atlantic County in 2015. The average $7,744 tax bill trailed only Linwood and Longport – and was just ahead of Margate (though Ventnor has a significantly higher tax rate than Margate and Longport).
A 100 Day plan was released last month by the Imagine Ventnor team of Tim Kriebel, Beth Maccagnano-Holtzman and Lance Landgraf.
Smart Budgeting. Launching a comprehensive review of the city’s existing expenditures and policies to determine where reform is needed to ensure a fair and balanced tax structure that does not overburden taxpayers or businesses, while raising sufficient revenue for government priorities.
- Using unbudgeted and nonrecurring surplus tax revenues, if any to assist with tax reductions and/or pay down the city’s debt.
- Shared services with neighboring communities to reduce duplication of services and to reduce the costs associated with many municipal services.
- Involving all stakeholders in a comprehensive review of the city’s existing expenditures and policies to determine where reform is needed to:
- Ensure a fair and balanced tax structure that does not overburden citizens or businesses.
- Raises sufficient revenue for government priorities at the level at which the programs and services are provided.
