Longport Police Department now accepting applications for Special Law Enforcement Officers, Class I – Summer 2024
The Special Law Enforcement Officer, Class I (SLEO I) is a seasonal part time member of the Police Department working from early May until the first week of September.
They shall be authorized to perform routine traffic detail, provide essential public safety and law enforcement services for the department.
Class I officers shall have the authority to issue summonses for disorderly persons and petty disorderly offenses, violations of municipal ordinance and violations of Title 39 of the Revised Statutes.
SLEO I Officers are not permitted to carry a firearm; does related work as required.
SLEO 1 Training
The training process for the Basic Course for SLEO I Officers is an 80 hour course.Â
The program includes training in baton, handcuffing, oleoresin capsicum (OC) spray, defensive tactics, disorderly persons offenses, traffic control and traffic law, first aid, use of force, various patrol concepts, and ethics.
