Rusty Silverman’s Lifeguard Art 2023 Events

For those of you who do not know me, Rusty Silverman personally, let me share some thoughts about my passions and how they relate to Lifeguard Art®.

At 79 years of age my appetite for this culture that I so love has neither slowed nor diminished.

The season starts for me with the Longport Memorials. There will be two or three events weekly and I’ll choose those to photograph based on weather conditions, subject matter, and locales or events I might not have covered in a while.

If there is a special event you would recommend please reach out.

My favorite event of last season was the Ship Bottom Invitational – Jack Donlon Memorial Race which was held in very cold-water conditions. The weather conditions lent themselves to a mood that is not typical of the summer lifeguard race season.

This year, I’ll be covering the USLA National Lifeguard Championships in Virginia Beach. During this road trip, I set aside time to photograph the wild horses at Assateague, a subject matter I don’t often show, but truly love.

I hope to get some pictures of the wild horses right on the beach.

Qigong and Tai Chi are an important part of my life. I have an almost daily ritual of doing the practice either on the Ventnor Pier over the ocean or directly on the beach. It is centering and internal and always gives me an opportunity to think about my photography.

It’s a creative time for me as well as a healthy thing to do. Sometimes I forget that I’m a well-trained physician.

Even though retired from clinical practice, I still spend time learning and exploring new and old health principles.

I have recently entered into a new relationship with Downbeach Buzz that will showcase artwork for homes and businesses in our community.

As we gear up for the 2023 Race Season, here’s a quick but extensive video of my favorites from last year. Not all images are on the website so if you have an interest in one please contact me.
