Ventnor Photographer Captures Beach Culture with Lifeguard Art

Dr. Rusty Silverman’s interest in photography began during a summer beach job while in medical school.

Rusty got his first break as a medic at the States Ave. beach tent in Atlantic City. That’s where his appreciation of life guard and beach culture took off

The beauty, bravery and athleticism of lifeguards, captured and presented by Lifeguard Art.

Ventnor’s Dr. Rusty Silverman is the photographer and driver of Lifeguard Art, a popular website dedicated to capturing beach culture, especially lifeguard competitions.

As a practicing physician, photography was not a priority, but still important to me.

When I retired from medicine, I decided to get entrepreneurial about my photography. I converted my website from a portfolio, to more of a marketing and sales site.

My goal is to give back to the community. Share the lifeguard culture I’ve admired for a lifetime.

I want to add to the legacy of lifeguard culture.

I love Downbeach. A group of small, important communities featuring tennis, pickleball and more.

I do daily QiGong / TaiChi over the water at Ventnor Pier.

I love being at the beach for lifeguard competitions. I get there at least an hour early to scope out the subject matter.

This is not photo journalism. I try to see an art form in nature, in the athletes, in the waves, in various weather conditions.

See permanent exhibitions of Lifeguard Art at the Ventnor Library and Art Center, and the Emergency Dept at AtlanticCare.

See Lifeguard Art displayed almost everywhere: The Noyes Museum, Atlantic City Art Center, Atlantic City Boardwalk Art Show, Ocean City Art Center, etc.

Rusty’s photo artwork would look beautiful inside your Downbeach vacation home.
