Margate Blue House and Light Pollution Nuisance > PUBLIC HEARING.

VIDEO > The infamous Margate Blue House. Imagine trying to sell your home if that 3-ring circus was on your block. That’s what some frustrated neighbors are saying.

All of this neon craziness could come to an end soon. The Margate Board of Commissioners will soon vote on this stuff called ‘light pollution’. There’s a public hearing at 5 p.m. on June 16 to determine if the City of Margate should pull the plug on this nightly extravaganza.

Should there be updated regulations on the use of outdoor lighting, LED technology and other theatrics that could to be a nuisance to neighbors? If you live on North Haverford Ave. in Margate, you would likely say YES.

Complaints are growing. The house is decorated with blue neon and blinking lights. It attracts nightly gawkers. Some claim this visual sideshow shines directly into their windows at night.

Commissioner Maury Blumberg says it looks like a circus. The car and foot traffic it attracts might be even more of a disturbance for this quiet residential neighborhood a few blocks from Casel’s and one of Margate’s downtown shopping districts.

DownbeachBUZZ has also witnessed the blinding glare that spotlights can deliver. These high powered security lights, if not properly aimed and selected for strength, can shine right across water ways into multiple homes. We didn’t believe it… til we saw it for ourselves. The reflection off the water is literally blinding. You’d never want to sit out on your back porch in the evening with a light beam in your face. “You feel like your on stage” with those spotlights across the water spilling into your property.
