O’Donoghue: Atlantic County’s New Sheriff In Town

There’s a new Atlantic County Sheriff in town and his name is Joseph O’Donoghue. Some call this law enforcement veteran by his nickname, ‘Tokyo Joe’.

The Honorable Judge Michael Blee administered the oath of office to O’Donoghue.

Sheriff O’Donoghue said ‘his job is to protect and serve all’ during his swearing-in ceremony on January 2, 2024.

‘We are all one people. We can’t be divided by race, religion or political preference.’

O’Donoghue defeated two-term Sheriff, Eric Scheffler, who is best known for his critical work in drug abuse recovery services.

June Byrnes was sworn-in as At-Large County Commissioner by Assemblywoman Claire Swift. During the ceremony, County Clerk Joe Giralo held the Bible for Byrnes to place her hand on.

Byrnes won the seat left behind by Caren Fitzpatrick who ran an unsuccessful campaign for a NJ Senate seat.

Surrogate Jim Curcio

Atlantic County Surrogate Jim Curcio had the honor of swearing in Commissioner John Risley for another three-year term.

Atlantic County Commissioner Andrew Parker

NJ Senator Vince Polistina swore-in Commissioner Andrew Parker for another three-year term. Parker is a popular Atlantic City School District teacher.
