Ventnor Summer 2017 Beach Movie Series Cancelled

Put away the popcorn and candy. Week #2, and the remaining weeks of Ventnor Family Movies by the Beach has been cancelled….for now. According to Boardwalk Entertainment, the weekly event has been officially postponed for the season.

Boardwalk Entertainment was to produce the Ventnor summer series of family flicks, after it’s big success with Ventnor’s Food Truck Festival earlier this summer.

“We are still waiting for clarification on ordinances from the City of Ventnor,” said owner of Boardwalk Entertainment, Amanda Thomas. “I regret to inform the public we have still not decided on a resolution to these issues, and for that we will have to postpone the series.”

Ventnor Cancels Family Movie Night by The Beach

The cancellation revolves around Ventnor City ordinances related to special events, vending, and beach rules. The specific, potentially out-of-date / kinda-murky ordinances that nixed the kid-friendly series include chapters 193, 173 and 72. See here.

Over the past few years, Ventnor leadership has worked to update it’s ordinances and procedures. City Hall wants to encourage more events and attract additional business to town. To be sure, elected officials have worked hard to make Ventnor a more business-friendly town, though with mixed results to date.

The recent lack of interest in bids for a restaurant liquor license was another unfortunate speed bump for a refreshed version of Ventnor, this little beach town with a whole lot of upside potential.

Boardwalk Entertainment has asked the City to clarify rules, and offered suggestions of moving the series to Ski Beach, as well as postpone until August.
