LISTEN: Margate Commissioners Meeting of July 2

Margate Commission meetings are back at Old City Hall. Limited seating tho. After accounting for administration, only about 10 attendees from the public can participate in person.

A question about the long-awaited bike racks raised by Jay Weintraub, President of the Margate Homeowners Association.

Also discussed during public comment:

  • Hotel overlay and high-rise concerns
  • Amherst Waterpark safety
  • Amherst Ave traffic
  • City selling over-assessed plot of land for $1,000

Listen

Another question from the MHA: Can public meetings be moved to a larger venue, or online, so more can attend?

MHA President, Jay Weintraub, also noted that agenda for July 2 Commissioners meeting didn’t make mention of the beach overlay or Master Plan amendment.

Note: Agenda can be changed at anytime leading up to actual meeting time.

Request was made by MHA to change the venue and/or make the meeting available via online video conferencing. ex: ZOOM or GO TO MEETING, etc. This would allow more residents to attend. Space is limited. Some voices could be silenced.

Below is the response from city admin, Richard Deany.

Good Morning Mr. Weintraub, Your informant is incorrect for there will be nothing on the Commission meeting agenda of July 2, 2020 pertaining to a “zoning change for the area which is now the Greenhouse” nor is there scheduled to be any presentations or discussions regarding zoning issues pertaining to this geographic area. Agendas are posted on City web page prior to meetings. Accordingly, the meeting venue will remain at its usual location. Richard W. Deaney

Henry Gorenstein: From what I SEE there is nothing on the agenda for the upcoming July 2, 2020 commissioners meeting pertaining to a zoning change in Margate. What I did HEAR was Mr. Roger Mc Larnon’s comments at last weeks 6/25/2020 Planning Board meeting that INCLUDED on its agenda discussing zoning changes that were never brought up, and him saying that it’s soon the commissioners would like to revise the Master Plan to allow 110 foot buildings.

Gorenstein: Lucy is a NATIONAL HISTORIC LANDMARK and should not be ignored when it comes to adjacent development.

Save Lucy Committee has concerns of impact of any zoning change, Master Plan update, or any Zoning Board application that would require USE and BULK variances to permit tall buildings be built near Lucy The Elephant.

Are Margate taxpayers paying attention? More high-rises could have an adverse effect on everyone in Margate. Imagine your next door neighbor decides to build a 5-story condo next door.

  1. The fact that Commission Meetings are now being held in person with an attendance limit of 10 citizens is disturbing and will silence the citizens of Margate. Roger McLarnon stated that sometime in the future, Commissioners will introduce the topic of Master Plan updates and/or Zoning changes to allow buildings with heights of 110 feet. The citizens must be permitted to provide comments and opinions to Commissioners at an in-person meeting or electronically. The citizens of Margate must insist that they can attend Commission meetings to voice their comments and opinion. Please call or write to Richard Deaney (Business Administrator) at 609-822-0432 or to the 3 Commissioners to insist that meetings accommodate all citizens that want to attend.

  2. As you see the 3 thieves smiling, that’s because they just screwed the Margate residents again! Wouldn’t you just love to wipe the grins off of Grumpy, Sleepy, & Dopey
Until the Margate residents wake up the 3 thieves will Continue to line their pockets. Oh, and let’s not leave out Scott Abbott! Let’s just call my Dumbo.
Margate will not get any honest transparency from our commissioners.
