Longport Barking Dogs

Complaints.

Longport residents are complaining about excessive dog barking says A. Scott Porter, the Longport Municipal Administrator.

Longport PD getting complaints of dogs barking, left in the yard or porches outside of the home for extended periods of time.

Some of the complaints are that when someone walks by a dog owner’s home, the dog or dogs will bark non-stop until they are out of sight. Or simply the animals will bark when they see another animal, or they bark because they like to bark.

As you can imagine, depending on the time of day, day of the week and amount of activity this can be disruptive of the peace and tranquility of the neighborhood. I ask that owners of animals be cognizant of this and bring their
animals into the house so that they do not disturb their neighbors.

We do have an ordinance that regulates this and it is covered under Chapter 116-4, section A, subsection (4). We, as owners of animals, need to be mindful of our pets and not allow them to disturb others on a continuous basis.

  1. I have heard the dogs as well barking at night and sometimes during the day if people can’t keep their pets inside where it’s safe and they’re not hot they don’t deserve to have a pet I wish the municipality would get a hold on this

    1. NL- you are absolutely correct on that statement Longport residents wine and cry about everything whether it’s people fishing on the bridge or on the Jetties, rabbits running loose in the neighborhood cars coming from Margate on Amherst Avenue, then they have the nerve to ask for donations for fireworks the borough has more money than the country of Switzerland..

      1. NL and Somers:

Thanks for the laughs as it is sadly true which makes it funny.

What’s next? The seagulls are flying in the sky too close to my house?

If I read the article correctly, when a person walks their dog by a house with a dog, that dog barks in response and stops when the dog being walked is out of site.

Wow, that happens in every neighborhood in the country.
People have to relax on that one.

I do agree that people should not leave their dogs outside in the yard too long in the heat as that is a safety issues.

In addition, if dogs are left outside in the yard too long and are barking continuously, that is another issue.

  2. I guess all of you complaining about Longport residents don’t live here. Is it a fair complaint to say Margate drivers park their cars in Longport all weekend and don’t move them? Unfortunately, we do not have timing restrictions on parking and Margate doesn’t have enough parking for all the condo’s they build. Living close to Margate does have it’s perks but the parking situation is way out of hand.

    1. Exaggerated comment

I love when someone like you uses words like “all” while generalizing Margate drivers as a group. Sorry, but the accurate words would be “some” or certain.

My mom told me at least a million times not to exaggerate. Any suggestions you’d like to offer along with your massively generalized complaints ?

    2. A town beach battle over who has it better? They both have it pretty good, all things considered.

Parking is tough in most beach towns during the busy summer months, especially on the weekends.

That is why I am so glad I no longer live in a beach town.

I get to visit family and enjoy the perks but get in and out on my schedule.

Plus, many of these second home owners in these beach towns now come packaged with way to much poor attitude.

      SMH.

    3. Parking Margate situation is awful. The poorest City Planner I’ve ever witnessed and I’ve lived all over the world.

    1. There’s a house on 32nd and Atlantic that has 2 giant dogs left to bark at passerbys on their porch. One dog is bigger than a PERSON, I swear.

They jump up on the porch railing and bark incessantly at others walking dogs past the house. They terrify people.

I think the owners think it will discourage people from allowing other dogs on their grass. Not normal.

  3. My problem is when dogs bark during the night. Not to mention dogs being a problem doing their thing on sidewalks, the beach, on private lawns, etc.

However, the problem is not the dog but the owners. Not much different than rowdy teens. It’s the parents.

This stuff happens across all shore towns.
