More Turbulence Coming to Spirit Airlines, Atlantic City Airport

Due to financial restructuring, Spirit Airlines will no longer have a local crew servicing ACY, Atlantic City International Airport.

Downsizing will take place effective September 1, 2024. The move affects 157 locally-based pilots and flight attendants.

‘Scheduled service at ACY will continue as usual’ says Spirit.

The news comes on the heels of Spirit delaying purchase of a new Airbus fleet.

Foreign based manufacturer, Airbus, is a direct competitor of US based, Boeing.

Spirit (and other airlines) also dealing with grounding of planes with serious engine issues.

The Spirit Air furlough will affect approx 250 pilots starting Sept. 1, 2024.

Spirit is the main airline at ACY.

  1. Anytime an airline does away with a pilot and flight attendant crew base, the number of flights and cities served from that domicile soon follow suit. Expect Spirit to reduce their ACY schedule. The judge ruled the Jet Blue/Spirit merger would hurt completion. What he failed to say was it would eliminate competetion because Spirit is on the brink of failure. Where do find such men?

An option for ACY travelers is American Airlines that has bus service to PHL 3x a day.

Spirit airlines stockholders and I would imagine owners of the airline received 425 million in pre payments at the onset of the plans to merge and even if it did not go through as it did not ,were to receive 69 million in cash , I thought they still made money even if it did not go through!!!
